This notice explains how your personal data is collected and used when you take part in or visit the #BackUKTech campaign wall at backuktech.com (the "site").

Who we are

The site is convened and operated by Cirata Ltd ("we", "us"), which is the data controller for personal data collected here. If you have any questions about this notice or how we handle your data, contact us at [email protected].

Our legal bases

We rely on your consent to publish your clip, name and the details you submit, which you give by ticking the consent box when you post. You can withdraw this consent at any time (see "Your rights"). We rely on our legitimate interests to run and promote the campaign, moderate submissions, and keep the site secure and free from abuse.

How your data is shared

We use Cloudflare to host the site, store and deliver the video clips (Cloudflare Stream), and protect the submission form from spam (Cloudflare Turnstile). Cloudflare processes this data on our behalf as our processor. We do not sell your personal data or use it for advertising.

Approved clips and the details you submit are shown publicly on the wall, and may be shared by us and by other participants on social media and with the press as part of the campaign. Please only submit content you are happy to be public.

International transfers

Our providers may process data on servers outside the UK. Where they do, the transfer is covered by appropriate safeguards such as the UK International Data Transfer Agreement or equivalent, so your data remains protected.

How long we keep it

We keep submissions for the duration of the campaign and a reasonable period afterwards for reporting and archive purposes. You can ask us to remove your clip and details at any time.

Cookies

We use a small number of cookies and similar technologies that are necessary for the site to work. We do not use advertising or analytics cookies.

Cookie / itemPurpose
Vote identifier (first-party)Stops the same browser voting for an ask more than once
Admin session (first-party)Keeps campaign moderators signed in to the review area
Cloudflare TurnstileConfirms the submission form is used by a person, not a bot
Cloudflare Stream playerSet by the embedded video player to deliver and play clips

Because these are strictly necessary or functional, we do not ask for consent to use them, but you can block cookies in your browser settings if you prefer (some features, such as voting, may then not work).

Your rights

You have the right to access the personal data we hold about you, to have it corrected or erased, to restrict or object to our use of it, and to withdraw consent where we rely on it. To exercise any of these, email [email protected].

If you are unhappy with how we have handled your data, you can complain to the UK Information Commissioner's Office (ICO) at ico.org.uk.
